Background

Gerry was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan where he received his Bachelor of Arts. Following a year at the School of Fine Arts in Montreal, he obtained a Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Education from the University of Ottawa. He subsequently received a Specialist Certificate in Fine Arts from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

He has been a practising artist for most of his life and was an art teacher in Ontario for the better part of 25 years.

As Head of the Art Department at Ecole secondaire Algonquin in North Bay, he was responsible for the creation and management of the Fine Arts program. He was also the creator of an educational Art Gallery for a period of ten years.

In 1995, Gerry took early retirement to work as a full time artist. He moved to Vernon, B.C. and opened a studio where he paints and teaches interested students.
